Coordinating travel for a family wedding with tight time constraints can be a challenge. So when 9 of us decided to book travel to Greenville South Carolina for Harold’s cousin Sarah’s wedding, we had some challenges to overcome. First, direct flights from Hartford (BDL) to Greenville don’t exist. Traveling with Harold is easier if you can limit it to direct flights. So the most cost effective flights were Delta direct to Atlanta where we would then rent a van and drive to Greenville 2 1/2 hours north.
We were pleasantly surprised when we researched accessible van rentals in Atlanta and found Mobility Works and it actually had a 9 passenger accessible van for a very reasonable daily rate!! This allowed us to have everyone in the family travel in the same vehicle. If you did need to make room for an additional wheel chair, you actually could remove and relocate each bucket seat. We will definitely be keeping this van in mind again in the future. Mobility Works made it super convenient with pick up and drop off right at baggage claim at the airport.
Downtown Greenville is a fun place to go for a long weekend. It has an great park with a beautiful waterfall, as well as accessible trails that go for miles. There is a great farmers market (Saturdays), and plenty of really good restaurants, cafes and coffee shops. Some are more accessible than others (as always!). We found the people really friendly and always willing to lend a hand. There is an minor league baseball team as well as art galleries. It always seems like there is something going on downtown whether a concerts, festivals, or a road race. With Harold’s uncle living in Greenville, he and the family have been there multiple times, and it never disappoints! If you have never been, we highly recommend a visit.
